Shawwal - The tenth month of the Islamic calendar. Shighar - A type of marriage in which persons exchange their daughters or sisters in marriage without a mahr. Shiqaq - Difference between husband and wife or any two persons. Shirk - Consists of associating anyone or anything with the Creator either in His being, or attributes, or in the exclusive rights (such as worship). Shuf'ah - Pre-emption. Siddiq and Siddiqun - Those followers of the Prophets (pbut) who were first and foremost to believe in them. Sidr - Lote tree. Sidrat al-Muntaha - "The lote-tree of the furthest limit." A tree over the seventh Heaven near Paradise, the place where form ends and beyond which no created being may pass. As-Sihah - The sixth book of Ahadith: compiled by Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawud, Nasa'i, Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah. As-Sirat - 'A road' it also means the bridge that will be laid across hell-fire for the people to pass over on the day of judgment. As-Sittah - The six compilers of Adadith Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawud, Nasa'i, Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah. Subhan Allah - "Glory be to Allah." Subhana wa Ta'ala - "May He be Glorified and Exalted." Sundas - A kind of silk cloth. Sunnah - The way of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). Surah - A chapter of the Quran. Sutrah - An object like a pillar, wall or stick, a spear. To act as a barrier between you and others during prayer. |
